Roberta Carpenter

My husband Darren and I married in 1987.  Nine years later, we welcomed our first child, Trent, who is now an East Carolina University graduate.  Our daughter, Dara, was born in 2001 and is a junior at West Carteret High School where she is an honor student.
In my free time, I adore spending it with my family!  I love Hallmark movies (especially during Christmas) and “vintage” (70s & 80s) television shows, especially game shows!!  Besides volunteering here at the church,  I also spend a lot of my free time volunteering in the school system and doing philanthropic work in the community.
The most surprising thing about me is that I am really competitive… especially during family game night!
Over the years, I’ve received so much great advice on life and parenting, but the two that I try to strive for everyday and pass on to my children are” “Be True to God and True to Yourself and Everything Else will Fall into Place” and “Live in Gratitude of Every Memory You Get to Make Today!”
My children have made the biggest impact on my life because they showed me my purpose in this world.  From the moment they were born, I knew God put me on this earth to be a mom!
If I were Queen for a day, I would do away with all the “Political Correctness” in the world and speak the truth about everything.  I’d also plan a big party for “the kingdom”… dancing to the sounds of the 1970s and 1980s.
My “working” life started out as a babysitter at the age of 12… what were those parents thinking?  It was a different time then!  My other early jobs included working at a poolside grill, grocery store cashier, restaurant hostess, and clothing store clerk.  My big break came when I wrecked my boyfriend’s car and was offered a job at an insurance agency.  The boyfriend became my husband and I worked in the insurance industry for 16 years as a Personal Lines Agent then a Lloyds of London Underwriter!  I joined the staff here at GTC 16 1/2 years ago and am a blessed woman to have a job that I love!!

Philippians 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
